MartinLogan Depth 212 Subwoofer

High-Resolution Subwoofer System

Depth Series subwoofers are designed to blend uncompromising low frequency performance with timeless, luxury design. Starting with a massively overbuilt cabinet, expertly sculpted to achieve a sleek and elegant look, every aspect of the Depth Series has been carefully crafted into a perfect fusion of both form and function.

The force-canceling dual woofer layout all but eliminates performance-robbing cabinet resonances, allowing the custom 12" (Depth 212) or 15" (Depth 215) Carbon Aerocore woofers to deliver pure bass energy without coloration. The system is backed by high-power, ultra-precise amplification controlled by a class leading 64-bit Vojtko DSP engine. All of this helps Depth achieve massive dynamic output, low distortion, and exceptional musicality.

It’s not only about what you can see and hear though, it’s also about what you can’t. Take the amplifier for example, which is completely concealed within the sleek back of the cabinet. Not only does it look clean, but it also allowed MartinLogan's engineers to design a convection cooling system to help keep the amplifier running at optimal levels. The aluminum trim pieces on the back edge of the sub not only add a touch of design flair, but they are both functional heatsinks and air intakes for the cooling system. Depth subwoofers prove that high performance and high style do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Power and Precision Delivered with Elegance

Because of the high levels of force necessary to produce bass frequencies, the subwoofer cabinet itself can vibrate or resonate, which can blur or color the sound. This is why speaker cabinets must be strong and rigid to counteract these forces for the best sound quality. Depth subwoofers take this concept to the next level by featuring MartinLogan's signature distortion-reducing BalancedForce woofer topology. The dual active 12" woofers on Depth 212 and dual active 15" woofers on Depth 215 are arranged so they operate in exact opposition from one another. The equal and opposite forces of the woofers effectively cancel out the energy that would typically be transferred into the cabinet. This design cuts out the blur, smearing, and distortion caused by cabinet resonance, leaving only pure, articulate bass energy. Not only does this sound noticeably better, but the lower distortion means Depth subwoofers are easier to listen to at all volumes. With such low distortion, Depth subwoofers are an ideal choice to pair with reference grade loudspeakers for the ultimate audio experience.

Carbon Aerocore Woofers

To achieve such detailed and articulate bass, MartinLogan's engineers designed a very special cone material. To prevent unwanted cone resonances and ringing, the tri-layer Carbon Aerocore woofers on Depth series uses layers of dissimilar materials to dampen and strengthen the cone for maximum fidelity. The outer layer is made of ultra-rigid carbon fiber, known for its extreme strength and light weight. The middle layer is a PMI foam core, an extremely lightweight cross-linked rigid structural foam material chosen for its impressive strength and incredible light weight. The back layer is composed of fiberglass, further dampening the cone without adding appreciable weight. The result is a cone that is both incredibly strong and stable, yet extremely lightweight and articulate. Able to play the most nuanced passages with precision and authority. Afterall, what good is power without control? To further enhance both performance and reliability, Depth’s Carbon Aerocore woofers are triple vented with under spider frame venting, vented voice coils, and vented pole pieces. These high performance woofers also use dual copper shorting rings for vanishingly low distortion.

Our

Up To 4,400W Of Reference Grade Amplification

Depth 212 features a 2,200W Dynamic Peak (1,100W RMS) Class-D amplifier while Depth 215 features dual amplifiers for a staggering total of 4,400W Dynamic Peak (2,200W RMS) power. Don’t make assumptions based on power, Depth subwoofers are not only about playing loud. These massive power reserves not only allow Depth subwoofers to achieve high output capability with low distortion, but also the precise delivery of bass, exactly when you need it, regardless of the volume level. Power and precision delivered with elegance, this is the MartinLogan way.

Convection Cooled Concealed Amplifier Design

The back of a subwoofer is rarely seen, and for good reason, it’s typically the least attractive side since the amplifier and connections are usually located here. With Depth, MartinLogan wanted every side to be “the good side” and chased the wild notion of treating the back of the sub as an opportunity to improve both performance and aesthetics. MartinLogan's team came up with an elegant solution, a completely concealed amplifier design that uses convection cooling to keep things running optimally. The decorative trim pieces on the back edges of the cabinet are actually extruded aluminum heatsinks. These intake cool air from the room while exhausting the hot air generated by the amplifier, keeping the amp operating at optimal levels even during the most demanding content. At this point you may be wondering where you plug in your subwoofer if there are no connections on the back? In another fusion of form and function, the inputs are located on the rear bottom edge of the subwoofer, tucked away inside an extruded aluminum trim piece. This helps keep your cable management nice and neat by placing the cables closer to the floor for a tidy look. They made sure to provide ample clearance to accommodate a variety of power and signal cable options.

Concealed Touch Control Interface

While the MartinLogan Control app offers the most convenient way to adjust your subwoofer, Depth subwoofers also feature a concealed Touch Control Interface (TCI). When not in use, the TCI acts as the backlight for the signature MartinLogan “zig” on the front control cover. The backlit logo can be set to a variety of user selectable colors or disabled entirely for a more stealth look. If you wish to access the subwoofer settings without using the app, simply press underneath the “zig” and the front cover is easily removed to reveal the TCI. The TCI displays all the available settings and options on its LED screen, and uses 6 contextually backlit touch points to interact with the available on-screen options.
